Six Steps to Prevent Mold

The best way to keep mold from spreading is to act fast when you know water is present. If you follow these six steps from ServiceMaster of Hendersonville you should stay mold-free.

1. Remove water — as soon as possible

Use a wet/dry vacuum to clean up as much water as soon as possible. ServiceMaster uses thes machines because they are the most effective tools for removing water.

2. Use fans to dry carpet even faster

It can take several days for fans to completely dry a water-damaged area. However, a good fan or several fans can be used to dry the moisture faster.

3. dehumidify the area

Dehumidifying machines remove excessive moisture, which makes the air feel cooler and limits mold and mildew growth. Any equipment that helps dry out the air and the ground will speed up the drying time for your damaged floors.

4. Steam-clean carpet and floor

Steam clean all carpets to properly sanitize and deodorize. Typically, water-damaged carpet padding must be replaced and replacing the padding is always recommended.

5. Clean walls and baseboards

Anything touched by storm water should be sanitized. Clean all walls, hard-surface floors and other household surfaces with soap and water. Sanitize them with a mixture of chlorine bleach and water.

6. Check furniture

Look for water damage and remove furniture from wet flooring. If not addressed soon enough, the water damage can spread from the floors to the furniture.

Call ServiceMaster of Hendersonville if you need help with any of these six steps. Mold can lead to serious health problems which can be much more expensive than mold removal.
